<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;">The Beds WSD stand was put together with lots of examples of our work, from the workshops we have had, guild challenges, and home work. See the photos below to see just how much we were able to show! Thank you to everyone who contributed, and we had loads of people who spent quite a bit of time looking at them all, in detail sometimes.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: small;">A huge thank you to all those who came to volunteer on the stand during Saturday and Sunday - Chris, Anna, Yvonne, Helen, Elaine, Julie, Roma and Liz. We couldn't have done it without you. </span><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: small;">We very much missed Hilary who was unable to join us due to ill health, and hope she is now getting better.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: small;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;">The "Have a Go" tables were hugely popular. The CD spindles with a puff of fibre will be the starting point for many new spinners (thank you Hilary). We had loads of people trying kumihimo braids, felting with Kinder eggs, making orifice hooks, weaving, and many more activities. And finally, most of the guild equipment was on display, and being used for demonstrations.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So a successful weekend, and lots of positive feedback on our interesting and impressive stand. We're hoping that we see some of the faces we met over the weekend in the guild meetings in the future, and everyone is welcome! Please get in touch via this blog if you have any questions or need any information about our meetings.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I'm looking forward to next year already, but I might need to start saving now!</span><br />

Three of these were new to the guild. May this interest continue!<br />
<br />
Roma was able to help Andrea sort some alpaca that she had been given.<br />
Angela helped Janet and Claire take their first steps in spinning.<br />
<br />
Chris had brought an impressive amount of foliage and other materials that we need to collect for our session on Eco Dyeing next month.<br />

<br />
There was a buzz about last night's meeting with a variety of activities going on.<br />
Jean got her rigid heddle loom warped and ready for her to 'get weaving' on her return home.<br />
Participants of the papermaking workshop, at the last Saturday meeting, brought their dry sheets of paper to show us. Hopefully, those workshop participants unable to come last night will bring their work along to the next meeting.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The sound could be heard of Spinning wheels, knitting needles and straw being plaited, making the familiar 'music' of eager, productive crafts people. Everyone was working on an individual project.<br />
<br />
A prospective new member made her first visit. A brave thing to do on your own! Hopefully convinced of the friendly, helpful nature of our group, she will soon return.<br />
Maggie brought cones of alpaca weaving yarn that could be purchased at the extremely reasonable price of £6 per cone. The remains of stock which had been spun for a lady keeping a small 'herd'.<br />
<br />
At our meeting on Saturday 18th of March Sarah Root will pay us a visit to talk about Cotton, as well as show and help some of us to spin this short fibre, considered by many to be a 'tricky customer'.<br />

<br />
These were the words heard coming from participants towards the end of our papermaking workshop on Saturday and there were, smiles all round!<br />
Thanks to our member, Chris Dobson, we had a well prepared and interesting workshop, with a wide choice of materials and additions to our papers.<br />
After Chris' demonstrations on making sheets of paper from two types of recycled, pulped paper, kindly prepared for us, ahead of the day, with the help of her husband - mustn't forget the unseen labour force! - she showed us how to make sheets of silk paper using wallpaper paste as a binding medium. These took a little longer than the pulped paper and necessitated us getting sticky along with the use of a squeegee to get rid of excess paste.<br />

<span style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: small;"> One of our workshop tutor's enduring interests is her collection of snowdrops. T</span></span>o brighten our day further Chris brought a posy of flowers from her garden. Among other beautiful things were snowdrops....20 different snowdrops, each with a different name and all from her collection.</div>

Chris challenged some of us to find the bloom with the name 'Grumpy'. Not a 'handle' you'd expect! If that is the first snowdrop , then the second is 'Cross'. Certainly not names you'd expect for a flower that brightens us up at this time of year!</div>

This is one small swathe of the 'common' snowdrops in my garden. What name could we give them?<br />
'Hump backed bridge' ?<br />

<br />
Well, we had an interesting and lively meeting yesterday. Formalities attended to, challenge entries voted for, two new members and, as usual, lots of support for those undertaking a skill new to them. But then there's nothing unusual in that at Bedfordshire Guild!<br />
With timber and materials already at the hall for new flooring under the stage, our equipment storage trolley, which means we can have safe and easy access to 'tools of our trades' in the very near future, is nearer to completion.<br />
<br />
The winner of the 2016 Challenge:- Su Brown, who had woven a striped table runner using 3 shades of clasped weft, a tricky technique with a great effect.<br />
Congratulations again Su!<br />

Members of Bedfordshire Guild send Seasonal Greetings to all!<br />
Especially those members who were not able to to get to the Christmas Party on Tuesday. Not forgetting our life member Jenny Dean and other members of The Association of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers.<br />
A toast to everyone made with Claire's festive punch.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08424755198083962869noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1168388804813408581.post-21285821842499750592016-11-28T14:35:00.001-08:002016-12-01T09:24:32.363-08:00Fun and Laughter We had a great meeting on Saturday. November saw us gather together to do our own work.<br />
As the year draws to a close we have started to pull out out woolly things, from hand knitted socks to an arm knitted scarf,<br />
We learned about arm knitting, how Kinder Eggs are the thing to have and that we can eat an alarming amount of chocolate brownies.<br />
<br />
We also found the answer to this riddle:-<br />
What can you do with a kinder egg that you can't do with a salad spinner, Kenwood food mixer(other makes available) or warm tumble dryer and a little soapy water?<br />
Answers on a postcard please <i>(or even an email.)</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
The answer is in one of our photos!<br />

</h2>
Last Saturday was our meeting specially devoted to weaving and it was great to see how many members took part.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eA2r9mhdXtc/WA4JkvwZkZI/AAAAAAAACZc/s4VPKrtszfci5-MZzNtXzZLxo3LprcZewCLcB/s1600/Random%2Bwarp.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="318" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eA2r9mhdXtc/WA4JkvwZkZI/AAAAAAAACZc/s4VPKrtszfci5-MZzNtXzZLxo3LprcZewCLcB/s400/Random%2Bwarp.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
In Flitwick Library, very close to our meeting place the village hall, a group of people who had taken part in a project called 'Weaving Narratives', organised by the Bedfordshire Archives, were having an exhibition of their work.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7yiXoNCh2IQ/WA4JjnXMgHI/AAAAAAAACZY/cHM54wm2j2ESqfOs9eF3iWzN0voUmIGeQCLcB/s1600/Table%2Brunner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7yiXoNCh2IQ/WA4JjnXMgHI/AAAAAAAACZY/cHM54wm2j2ESqfOs9eF3iWzN0voUmIGeQCLcB/s400/Table%2Brunner.jpg" width="284" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
So, we took the opportunity to invite the participants of the project, as well as those members of the public who visited the library and viewed the exhibition, to visit the guild, discover what we are about, the work that we produce and partake in tea and cake specially brought for the occasion.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3TF7QANKnRw/WA4JfaUTWrI/AAAAAAAACZU/gj72ZgvWb2owN31eFgpU4RdOvmy8Go68QCEw/s1600/REDS.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3TF7QANKnRw/WA4JfaUTWrI/AAAAAAAACZU/gj72ZgvWb2owN31eFgpU4RdOvmy8Go68QCEw/s400/REDS.jpg" width="280" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Several members brought some of their work to show the variety of skills and projects achieved in the last few months.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rB0WZvas6Qo/WA4G3INaC7I/AAAAAAAACY8/blgABhpu8iQ3BdLJgphfubrtt9sPzCGtACLcB/s1600/Display%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="227" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rB0WZvas6Qo/WA4G3INaC7I/AAAAAAAACY8/blgABhpu8iQ3BdLJgphfubrtt9sPzCGtACLcB/s640/Display%2B2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
We, in turn, went to look at the interesting fruits of their labours.<br />

<br />
As well as member's carrying out their own work, there was advice for a new weaver who had just finished her first scarf. One of our members walked her through taking the weaving off the loom and various finishing options. <br />
<br />
In other news, we saw samples from the Solar Dyeing skillshare held in the summer, ranging from a soft yellow to a darkish red. Talking around the results led our conversation from there to indigo, to recent finds in Peru, East Anglia and the history of textiles. There aren't many afternoons one gets to spend eating cake, doing something you love and having an interesting conversation!<br />

The weather was positively tropical and fairly relentless in terms of heat.<br />
<br />
We had a new home this year inside the main buildings with the other Guilds, which collectively made a great entrance, giving inspiration to everyone for shopping.<br />
<br />
Our display team had worked hard behind the scenes to get everything organised, with little time to setup, it all came together beautifully. Members were, as always, very kind in donating their time to demonstrate on two looms, spinning wheels, blending board and drop spindles.<br />
<br />
We had lots of visitors through the day - one of the great things about belonging to a Guild is the passion, support and knowledge that is freely shared. Visitors old and new got to play, advice on everything from processing fleece to warping looms, and a warm invitation to come visit if they are in the neighbourhood.<br />
<br />
Our display this year was based on our Guild theme - Colour. Members brought in work they have done in workshops, own work and home work!<br />

I don't do "natural"dyeing; if I must dye I prefer "chemicals" so there are no surprises, good or bad, and I'd sent apologies to our chair person for my lack of interest....<br />
<br />
Having fought through pouring rain to get to the meeting there was a reward in the shape of weaving samples from Angela and Brenda who had done a weekend course in advanced techniques, much gnashing of teeth here, I was booked to do it but was dragged away for the weekend instead!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Meanwhile Maggie had set up two tables with enticing things on them:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iA3g6sfYbeo/V16iwTnqo4I/AAAAAAAACPo/9zFvEuyF9EArl2zDdOfZPKkO3km8FoLTwCLcB/s1600/DSCN2165-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iA3g6sfYbeo/V16iwTnqo4I/AAAAAAAACPo/9zFvEuyF9EArl2zDdOfZPKkO3km8FoLTwCLcB/s640/DSCN2165-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>

As you can see from the basket, she has a range of samples dyed with plants from the garden, and the stand up card shows how some of them look when treated afterwards with modifiers such as citric acid. The range of colours was a surprise to some of us!<br />
<br />
She demonstrated how to set up a solar dyeing jar using pomegranate skin (it's <u><b>very</b></u> warm in her garden!!!) and to our amazement it began to work immediately. I was so impressed that I immediately dashed off to the supermarket to buy 2 pomegranates, and my solar dyeing jar is now set up - in the pouring rain.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dsfOiJ3sdoM/V16mmgg6vUI/AAAAAAAACQA/lES3isvZ-2wfNX48fK_XK5cEHgUceeShgCLcB/s1600/DSCN2195-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dsfOiJ3sdoM/V16mmgg6vUI/AAAAAAAACQA/lES3isvZ-2wfNX48fK_XK5cEHgUceeShgCLcB/s320/DSCN2195-2.jpg" width="197" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I have since discovered however that I am missing a major ingredient for solar dyeing, at least in our climate, and that is patience. I am itching to get my fingers on that wool to see how it looks, but I suspect I have at least 2 weeks more to wait - I'll keep you posted!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08424755198083962869noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1168388804813408581.post-55901308863308156302016-06-07T12:39:00.000-07:002016-06-12T13:17:17.197-07:00Solar dyeing - Guild skillshare<div class="MsoNormal" style="word-break: break-word;">

Hall.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">This was, as usual, a busy, vibrant, productive meeting. Some
members, like our visitor, had not done any acid dyeing before but all were keen
to achieve success, learn and produce attractively dyed yarn for their, mainly,
weaving projects.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Apart from getting our project yarns dyed, protecting the
laminate floor was an aim of this event, if we were ever to be allowed to do
this again.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">With this in mind, preparation began some time ago, saving
newspapers and sorting out protective sheets for the floor and table tops.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-W27LJdyFDhw/V13AVZhtiwI/AAAAAAAACL0/Tic7EfUhjWsQYvzPLUbE2oTqgEF6uPHkgCLcB/s1600/DSCN9871.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-W27LJdyFDhw/V13AVZhtiwI/AAAAAAAACL0/Tic7EfUhjWsQYvzPLUbE2oTqgEF6uPHkgCLcB/s640/DSCN9871.JPG" width="640" /></span></a><span style="font-family: inherit;"></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">The first stage, after preparing the area, was to mix our
dyes from our own supplies or those bought for the guild resources. The dye
shade cards produced a couple of years ago along with ‘The Guild of Long Draw
Spinners’, came in useful when deciding the proportions of colours to mix for a
required shade.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8bnbNnZ6dDs/V13AkD23HAI/AAAAAAAACL8/FPe3YitU8QEBzQXaRVyjEOt3KwApfLa7gCLcB/s1600/DSCN9873.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8bnbNnZ6dDs/V13AkD23HAI/AAAAAAAACL8/FPe3YitU8QEBzQXaRVyjEOt3KwApfLa7gCLcB/s640/DSCN9873.JPG" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt;">
<span style="color: #1f4e79; mso-themecolor: accent1; mso-themeshade: 128;"><span style="font-family: "calibri";"><span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><span style="color: black;"><i></i><i></i></span><br /></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Oh Dear!!!!! Where was the fixative? It was there each times
the equipment boxes to be brought on the day were checked. Two searches
revealed no sign of it! Embarrassed chairperson!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Dianne to the rescue. Dianne, thankfully had a whole new pot,
more than she needed for her own project. Face saved, time to get on! Such a
relief! </span></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">We had been given saucepans and steamers by one of our
members, sadly unable to come, others brought their own. A cooking range full
of these utensils meant that we all got our dye colours set in two 45 minute
sessions with time for a quick rinse before transportation home.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><span style="color: #1f4e79; mso-themecolor: accent1; mso-themeshade: 128;"><span style="font-family: "calibri";"><span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><br /></span></span></i>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">There was time left to relax and spin, knit or natter and
look at what the non-dyers had brought.</span></div>
<div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Su had dyed her tops at home and brought them along for us
to see (wonder what they will become?)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f91zaWt9gc8/V13BH8pyptI/AAAAAAAACMc/84Z20tIDSwEZ4Uht1VzmOt1wRo4qyGxKgCLcB/s1600/DSCN9878.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f91zaWt9gc8/V13BH8pyptI/AAAAAAAACMc/84Z20tIDSwEZ4Uht1VzmOt1wRo4qyGxKgCLcB/s640/DSCN9878.JPG" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";"><span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Hopefully, the dyed dried yarns will be revealed at our next
get together.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">What became of the missing fixative?</span></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">It was there all along….migrated and invisible, obviously
feeling more comfortable in a tray of containers similar to itself, rather than
with those messy, smelly dye powders.</span></div>

Starting off, she took us through the history of colour at a brisk pace, whilst keeping us entertained.<div><br></div><div>Colour theory was more practical as there was a sea of fluff to play with. Jill took us through practical excercises to get us to not only step outside our comfort zone but also understand tangibly how colours work together.</div><div><br></div><div>Amongst other things we were shown how to create batts based on our inspiration cue, ranging from images to music. It was interesting to see that no two were alike.</div><div><br></div><div>This was followed by punis from a drum carder, art yarn and much more. All the workshop participants had a good day, going home with their dream batt to spin. We're looking forward to seeing how they all spin up.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-V8Z8Aw1coEc/VvDpxLDGqDI/AAAAAAAACKU/mvu9KC26Yjg/s640/blogger-image-748568239.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-V8Z8Aw1coEc/VvDpxLDGqDI/AAAAAAAACKU/mvu9KC26Yjg/s640/blogger-image-748568239.jpg"></a></div><br></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08424755198083962869noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1168388804813408581.post-18770557481207382062016-02-24T23:05:00.001-08:002016-02-24T23:05:23.602-08:00Guild Skillshare - rigid heddle weaving for Beginners<div><br></div><div><br></div>One of the great things about belonging to a Guild, other than the lovely people and cake, is the generosity of members in sharing their time and skills to help others learn.<div><br></div><div>This was in evidence on Saturday with our Skillshare on warping and then weaving on rigid heddle looms. Recently, I was able to join a party from Cambridge Guild to visit the Fitzwilliam Museum textile archives. We were given a talk and shown some of their handwoven tapestries that the museum is not able to have on public display. <br />
<br />
Click <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/138343446@N06/albums/72157663828277830" target="_blank">here</a> to see all my photos from the session.</div>
<br />
The tapestries had been the collection of a local couple, donated to the museum. We were pleasantly surprised to be allowed to handle and photograph them. The room was small and there were twelve of us there, so some of the photographs you can see are from unusual angles.<br />
<br />
The tapestry warp runs across the hung tapestry. The tapestries were woven from the left or right of the cartoon, not as we worked, bottom to top.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<h4>
Tapestry weavers, take heart</h4>
<div id="yui_3_16_0_1_1454837536121_4506">
Just look at the back of this tapestry! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TZsoQrm8hes/Vrdi8BsKb2I/AAAAAAAACG4/mzFb6z3b710/s1600/IMG_0559.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TZsoQrm8hes/Vrdi8BsKb2I/AAAAAAAACG4/mzFb6z3b710/s640/IMG_0559.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
On the back of each tapestry there were ends visible. Non of the yarn ends have been darned in, no attempt has been made to remove them or tidy them up. There are even rows of stitches where the slits between the woven areas have been joined using a cotton or linen thread. Making this a speedier weaving process. There are trails of weaving yarn across areas to get to the next area in that colour.<br />
</div>
<br />
The tapestries we saw were smaller, for the masses. They are from the more commercial side of the company catering for those with a disposable income which enabled them to purchase these works of art. There are larger tapestries in the historic buildings of Europe.<br />
<br />
<br />
The Aubusson Company had artists design the cartoons from which their workers then wove the tapestries. They may have woven several versions of the same cartoon. <br />
<br />
The signature on each tapestry is that of the designer rather than the weaver.<br />
<br />
A lovely day, with the opportunity to see some masterful work.<br />

We thank the two committee members standing down for their hard work on behalf of the Guild. Similarly, we welcome our two new members.<br />
<br />
After the sensible business of the AGM, we got on with some fun. Firstly, drawing the winner of our 2015 Guild challenge and runner up.<br />
<br />
Our winner was a handspun shawl with candy floss:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qF1XHyMNj0g/VpqGFP8CaNI/AAAAAAAACDI/1tRa2ZGMxRY/s1600/P1160021.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qF1XHyMNj0g/VpqGFP8CaNI/AAAAAAAACDI/1tRa2ZGMxRY/s640/P1160021.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>

<br />
Our close runner up was Helterskelter, completed since our Tapestry Weaving workshop (which was only held in November) using the techniques learned.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HkttC1v3Nj0/VpqGV1a64oI/AAAAAAAACDY/-BL04j8XsC8/s1600/P1160017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HkttC1v3Nj0/VpqGV1a64oI/AAAAAAAACDY/-BL04j8XsC8/s640/P1160017.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Well done to everyone who entered, there was as always, a wide interpretation of the theme.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aUYtrCNi1QU/VpqHiZvV88I/AAAAAAAACDk/zR3Yjcs5YIs/s1600/guild%2Bchallenge%2Bmontage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aUYtrCNi1QU/VpqHiZvV88I/AAAAAAAACDk/zR3Yjcs5YIs/s640/guild%2Bchallenge%2Bmontage.jpg" width="636" /></a></div>
<br />
After lunch, we launched our 2016 colour theme with a simple exercise involving 4,000 colour swatches. Each member was given a photograph with a suggested palette, then let loose on the pile of colour to find toning and contrasting colours. The idea being that members will take their final colour palette to use in a future project or as inspiration for one of our activities later this year.<br />
<br />

<br />
And, last, but not least, there was some spinning tuition going on for one of our visitors ....<br />
